Main Tasks – Principal Duties and Responsibilities
– Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate and individual programs of care for patients with a wide variety of skin conditions and provide necessary support, treatment and health education.
– To develop specialist knowledge of dermatological nursing practice.
– To be responsible for ensuring nursing practice is research based and regularly updated within the scope of professional practice.
– Maintain a high standard of patient care within the Service, promoting the concept of safe practice towards individualized patient care, using up to date treatment and protocols.
– Comply with Health and Safety Legislation within the workplace.
– Maintain good communication with visitors, relatives and other Services and organized bodies.
– Accept personal enquiries and encourage attendance for further discussion with relevant personnel.
– Work within the policies and procedures agreed by The Practice and adhere to the agreed clinical protocols and guidelines.
– Provide information and advice to patients attending the Service and over the telephone.
– Use the concept of reflective practice to enhance patient care.
– Assist in clinical procedures and clinical management of patients.
– Have a good working knowledge of current infection control procedures, complaints, accident reporting, waste management, storage and administration of drugs.
– Be familiar with the laws and policies relating to the ordering, safe custody and administration of drugs.
– Be an effective listener for all patients when the need arises and refer appropriately.
– Encourage multi-disciplinary activity within the unit.
– Be committed to your own professional development and to extend and improve skills to meet the needs of the service.
– Participate in individual performance reviews, setting objectives and agreeing a personal development plan with line Manager.
– Develop skills through competencies in relation to dermatology.
– To report to the team any accidents/incidents or complaints which occur within the Service.
– To keep abreast of updated clinical practice guidelines and policies.
